Ferry link to be reinstated between Cyprus and Greece

On November 29, the Deputy Governor of Cyprus (SDM) launched a tender process to restore a passenger ferry service between Cyprus and Greece. The weekly service will operate seasonally from April / May to September / October, with a total of 22 return trips a year.

In accordance with EU rules, € 5.5 million in state funds will be provided for the three-year contract and the operator will have the option to extend the contract for another three years.

“Resuscitation of the ferry connection will help us continue to build our relationship with the rest of the Mediterranean and we welcome the opportunity to expand the ferry’s link to a third neighboring country beyond Greece as well,” said Vasily Demetriades, SDM Cyprus minister. “We also recognize that in the summer season there will be higher demand, so we will consider connecting a seasonal ferry to encourage a wider range of candidates for this tender. We believe this connection will bring a huge benefit to the whole region and look forward to examining tenders in the new year.”

The tender is open for comments and questions and the SDM of Cyprus will adjust the tender requirements based on feedback. Tender bids are open until noon on January 28, 2022.
