East Norfolk (and East Suffolk!) Bus Blog: National Express 727

David Slater provides details on changes to National Express routes serving our area

A new schedule for the National Express 727 service begins on November 29, 2021 that includes two trips from Great Yarmouth to Heathrow (operated by Ambassador Travel) and two trips from Norwich (UEA) to Heathrow. There is also one ride from Norwich (UEA) to Stansted (UEA services are all operated by National Express at home).

In Stand A at Mildenhall’s bus stop on Wednesday, December 1, National Express is owned by 323 (BF21 CZJ), Caetano Levante 3 new Scania K410 body in July 2021, which operated service 0915 National Express 727 from Stansted to Norwich (UEA). This service was supposed to be here at 1100.

At booth B is Stephensons from Essex 461 (EU60 CBF) who works at 1020 16 Newmarket Service to Bury St. Edmunds. This service was supposed to have her in 1103. An Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro200 new in September 2010.

It also competes to reach the A Ambassador Travel 218 booth (BV19 XOZ) operating on 0915 Great Yarmouth to Heathrow National Express 727 Airport (also scheduled to arrive here in 1100). This is a new Caetano Levante 2 Scania K360EB4 body in June 2019 for West Midlands Travel owned by National Express as their 267th. Ambassador Travel is a longtime National Express contractor.

Service 727 is no longer moving to Gatwick and Brighton. National Express owns Lucketts Travel / Worthing Coaches who have been working on the 727 since June 2021 are no longer working on the service.

Great Yarmouth-Norwich-London 490/491/492 services have remained unchanged and it appears that Ambassador Travel is still working on these.

The above changes may explain why the Volvo B8R BK15 AJU was added as an additional vehicle to the Ambassador fleet recently from West Midlands Travel.

I thank David for the information and photo
