Carnival Glory, Carnival Valor and Norwegian Breakaway have all returned from the port since September
Cruise operations have resumed at the Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA), with Carnival Glory and Carnival Valor of Carnival Cruise Line, and Norwegian Breakaway of Norwegian Cruise Line all returning to sail from the port since September 2021.
Cruise activity was completely shut down during the Cubid plague March 19, 2020. River cruises resumed from the port in March 2021, and in September 2021 Carnival was the first to resume ocean cruises. Norwegian Cruise Line and Disney Cruise Line will return with more ships in February 2022, with 285 cruises and nearly a million passenger movements expected during the 2022 calendar year.
All cruise lines operating from the port currently have vaccination, testing and masking requirements as well as Cubid-19 protocols beyond the federal recommendations in the US.
“We are pleased that ocean cruises are renewing and joining the successful start of river cruises nine months ago,” said Brandy Christian, president and CEO of Port NOLA. “Cruises from the Port of New Orleans are critical to the state and regional economy. “Our cruise passengers make up more than 300,000 hotel room nights in our city alone and they spend more than $ 125 million on the spot.”
New Orleans is the sixth largest cruise port in the U.S. Carnival Cruise Line now offers Caribbean cruises from the port, with weekly cruises aboard the Carnival Glory and four- to five-night cruises on Carnival Valor. Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Breakaway now cruises seasonal cruises. Seven days to the Caribbean from November to April Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Wonder will offer four-, five- and six-night cruises during its season, scheduled for February through March 2022.
American Queen Steamboat Company and American Cruise Lines offer river cruises from the harbor. American Cruise Lines introduced new river cruises American Jazz and American Melody for cruises from New Orleans in 2021, with more ships first departing in 2022. Viking Cruise Lines will also begin sailing from NOLA Port in 2022, with stops along the Mississippi River.
