Alliance formed to create sustainable smart cities in Japan

Dassault Systèmes and NTT Communications have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the aim of offering an expandable smart city platform that can be used to address urban challenges in Japan.

Both companies will use virtual twin technology and big data to explore solutions to challenges related to sustainability and resilience in many areas, including energy. It will start with electrification challenges in mobility and other areas, as well as supporting companies that bring innovative technologies and new value to this sector.

Virtual twin technologies

As part of the alliance, Dassault and NTT Com said they would jointly carry out projects related to buildings, districts and urban management, deploying a collaborative platform and virtual twin technologies to orchestrate full value chain projects, manage data and simulate energy optimization, among other initiatives.

In the future, the plan is to expand the scope of their alliance to projects in mobility, tourism and disaster prevention. The companies will demonstrate their smart city projects at Cross Lab for Smart City, an innovation center opened by NTT Com in Japan this year.

The alliance will leverage the expertise of both companies. Dassault Systèmes’ 3DExperience platform provides a single virtual environment that enables city stakeholders to collaborate across different areas, and to simulate and explore real-world data combinations to test and improve risk-free ideas.

“By combining our strengths, we strive to offer an expandable and dynamic smart city platform that helps Japanese cities face challenges and identify sustainable, collaborative, virtual solutions.”

Dassault Systèmes reports that it also works with customers in industries that have an increasingly integral role in urban development such as original car equipment manufacturers, mobility operators, renewable energy operators and civil engineering suppliers.

“NTT Com has gained extensive experience in a number of city and smart city development projects,” said Junia Kaga, Deputy Director of the Smart City Department, NTT Com. “With in-depth knowledge and expertise in urban planning and development, we have worked hard on a number of initiatives, using digital twins, in which we strive to create smarter cities.”

He continued: “Striving to realize such digital twins so we can return tons of sensor data to actual cities for disaster prevention, energy management and transformation optimization, we will continue to use and validate multiple projects using actual smart city fields with Dassault Systèmes, so we can create new value for cities together Wisdom. “
